Sunday, November 30, 2003 The Best Democracy Money Can Buy ~! Just half way into the book by this title, written by Greg Palast (http://www.gregpalast.com), and I'm aghast. Bushie isn't the problem -- he's just the highly visible tip of the iceberg -- the symptoms of a MUCH more malignant malady ~! I truly didn't expect much more in the way of an 'expose' of "corporate cons, globalization and high-finance fraudsters" than a few tittilating tidbits but Palast has blown the lid off our STOLEN "presidential" election (sic) in 2000, noting how thousands of Black voters were disenfranchised, and how it's the BANKERS -- the IMF (International Monetary Fund), World Bank (51% owned by the U.S. Treasury) and WTO (World Trade Organization) who are really wracking havoc in third world countries and economies, while enriching a handful of already rich fo'k, racking up tremendous profits (e.g. in privitization of public utilities - water and gas), and reeking of insider "deals" ~! For anyone who is still "proud" to be an amerikan, this book is MUST READING ~! The scales will fall from your eyes, but be forewarned, keep a barff bucket close at hand -- best read on an empty stomach -- something that may be just around the corner and closer at hand than you'd think ! posted by ladywolfsong, 19:06 | link | comments (1) Saturday, November 29, 2003 A Muzzled Media. I grew up thinking we had a "free media" and valued same as a means of public information and communication. Things have changed, for the worse, and no signs of THAT slowing down. Last nite on the pbs Bill Moyers show, "NOW", (see http://www.pbs.org/now/) the ever-advancing monopolization (ergo homogenization -- ie the "wal-marting" of the public airwaves) was touched upon. I've long felt that the pablum passing for "news" was pretty one-sided, but now with the conglomeratization of media, we're gonna be in deep do-do. One group you could support in efforts to counter this is "Media Reform" -- http://www.mediareform.net -- as if the FCC and those inside the beltway give a damn. Everyone does NOT love raymond -- in fact, when I settled in one evening, first season, to take a look at this highly touted new 'sit-com', I almost threw up -- it's not only NOT funny, this peek at this dysfunctional family that makes Archie Bunker look "normal", but the lead character gives ALL men a bad rep (something they do not need help with) for being a sex-craved dullard of a dolt. His on-screen mate comes across as a negative, depressed, put-upon harpie whose room-temperature I.Q. is still the highest in the litter. If this is supposed to be reflective of home-life in amerika, deliver me ~! The internet IS the last, and best bastion of free speech in the world -- but my crystal ball shows me as soon as Rupert Murdock & crew have sewn up ALL the newspapers, radio and t.v. stations in the land, the net will be next ~! posted by ladywolfsong, 09:29 | link | comments Sunday, November 23, 2003 That Medicare Mess... While I'm still too "young" (by a coupla years) to be overly concerned with social insecurity or medicrap programs, my kid qualifies for both, due to her disability. In case YOU have any concerns re: what "they" (those inside the beltway) are doing to dismantle (they call it privitization) these important programs, check out http://www.citizen.org/action. If you can ONLY be moved to take cyber action on issues affecting our FUTURE, this is one of the best sites I've found -- quicker than writing a letter, cheaper than a fax, and easier than a phone call -- action is only a click away ~! We need CHANGE, but NOT the way "they" are going about it -- Bushie's energy bill is a give-away program to the oil/electric cartels, and this Medicare bill is a give-away to the HMO's and pharmaceutical companies. We need to "give back" our freedoms and fairness to US -- and positive change will only happen from the bottom up, not the top down ~! GET ANGRY, GET AGITATED, AND THEN TAKE ACTION ~! (my thought for the day) posted by ladywolfsong, 18:09 | link | comments Saturday, November 22, 2003 40 Years Ago... They say everyone remembers where they were, around noon on Nov 22, 1964. I'd just come home from junior college classes to change into my size 4 waitress uniform and go work the 2-l0 pm shift at the hotel coffee shop, just across the alley from our small motel. My mother came running over from her apt., crying, 'The President has been shot ~!'. I dismissed this, thinking she'd gone off her meds, but when I walked into the hotel lobby, early for work, everyone was standing around the tiny, black and white tv set, in stone-cold silence. Outside, it was warm and sunny, birds were singing, but inside it was like a morgue. A few days later, we watched the real deal, as JFK's state funeral was televised -- it was no re-run. While it's often warm and spring-like here in the desert, even in November or December, it seemed like a long time before the world warmed up, again -- and it was like we'd lost a member of all America's family. posted by ladywolfsong, 08:50 | link | comments Thursday, November 20, 2003 Corp Watch & Perp Walks... Leave it to those kids in California -- since I'm pushing 60, anyone age 40 and under is a "kid" to me -- but some of the smarter ones in San Francisco have got it together to keep a sharp eye peeled on the corporate takeover of the entire WORLD ~! See http://www.corpwatch.org as they tell it like it is -- just somewhat anti-globalization and pro-workers' rights and pro-environmental protection. Fancy that -- wanting to hold corporations accountable ~! But harking back to MY grandparents', I think everyone should be accountable for their actions, deeds and/or mis-deeds ~! What a quaint idear.
posted by ladywolfsong, 05:06 | link | comments Monday, November 17, 2003 Troop Dupe... A friend and I were visiting last night, confirmed that NEITHER of us had or would vote for Mr. Bush, and we came up with a plan -- since Bushie has experience "leading" in an UN-elected capacity, why don't we just send HIM, along with the $87 Bil of taxpayer's dollars to Iraq, bring OUR troops home and let Georgie "run" Iraq to suit hisself? Iraq needs leadership (sic), he seems to like that country, and this one could do a LOT better ~! Then there's the article by Stan Goff, U.S. Army ret., at http://www.commondreams.org/views03/1115-06.htm, urging our guys to "Hold on to your Humanity" -- what with our guys being blown outta huies a dozen and a half at a time, on a once or twice weekly basis now, it's time to re-think a LOT about Bush's Blunder. Goff saw action and spent time in Vietnam -- I protested THAT one, and I'm opposed to this one -- and he very eloquently addresses just how our fine men and women in uniform are made out to be "chump change" when sent into spurious "battles", based on LIES from inside the Beltway. Our guys in the military are NOT being received as "liberators" because the embattled peasants in Iraq see through the sham being shouted by the guys in the $5,000 suits whether loyal amerikans do or not -- it's all about the money -- the Halliburton contracts, the oil and the egomanical machinations of a guy who never had to work a day in his life (that would be G. W. Bush). Goff's essay at commondreams.org needs to read and spread, far and wide. posted by ladywolfsong, 07:03 | link | comments Wednesday, November 12, 2003 Jeeeze, how time flies ~! I can't believe it's been almost three weeks ~! Today is my kid's birthday, and while that (preparation) HAS taken some time, along with putting the final touches on a 72,000 word autobiography, "Scalin the Slippery Slope", I have no excuses. AL SAID IT BEST... in case ANYONE missed Al Gore's speech, hosted by moveon.org, I'll have link(s) to it here soon -- doing my little bit to help cover the waterfront and spread the good news -- Bush has to go -- I'm just Native American enough to know some of the teachings -- and I like the idea of our actions being based on that best serves / hurts the least, the NEXT SEVEN GENERATIONS -- and Mr. Gore, while being duly elected but missing the inauguration, had the cojones to SAY that what Bush is doing places our children's children's freedoms, future and financial status in serious jeapordy ~! Here's hoping Al baby keeps telling it like it is -- maybe he CAN do a lot "outta office" that he couldn't do inside the beltway.
posted by ladywolfsong, 09:55 | link | comments Sunday, November 02, 2003 Even grander... an even grander set of over 700 links , sure to get your blood boiling if you don't happen to like corporate corruption, give-away programs to the wealthy and stripping of your freedoms to a fare-the-well, check out http://www.linkcrusader.com/anti-bush.htm . Believe it or not, i used to really be proud to be an "American" (sic) and thought i lived in a 'free' country. I was even the first female president of the North Texas State Republicans back in the '60's and we won outstanding club in the state and nation under my able dictatorship. That was before I joined the Green Pardy. I wonder what it's gonna take for us, 'we' the people, to get our country BACK -- i used to say when the polar icecaps melted, but they seem to be doing just that ~! Maybe, with enough dissention to counter the distraction purveyed on the corporate nooze channels, there is hope... Maybe.

I wish my dog minded as well as 'puters do -- exactly what you tell them, NO room or margin for error ~! posted by ladywolfsong, 07:15 | link | comments Mother-Lode Found ~! Last nite i found the motherlode of all anti-bush sites: http://www.topplebushcom/links.shtml and until i figure out how to better post links on this here blog, they'll just have to go in the body of text ~! Oh well. "Topple" has 'em ALL gathered up and organized -- into serious, humorous, t-shirts and in general is a groundswell of all things opposing the 'misleader-in-chief' and his corporate corruption programs. Speaking of such, did you know that recent data claims one out of every ten amerikans is or was in the U.S. Military? NOT making the headlines and sound bites is how much $$$ bushie is cutting from veterans programs, but it's enough to fund rebuilding his escapade(s) in the middle east. If you, or someone you care about IS a Veteran, you just gotta check out http://www.bushflash.com/vets.html -- it takes a minute or two to load, but WELL worth the wait and the looksee. |
